When the addition of the critically acclaimed French film Cuties to its catalogue was announced by Netflix, it was not necessary for any controversy to arise. The aim of the filmmaker, Maïmouna Doucouré, was to speak out against the sexualization of children and bring everyone together for a common cause.

However, due to some extremely poor decision-making by the Netflix marketing department, there was an uproar over the promotional poster, which showcased three young girls in skimpy dancing attire posing suggestively. In contrast, the poster used in France depicted girls carrying shopping bags.
