Martha's dodge is crucial for success. Dodge is random, so getting good RNG is necessary. The team faces some losses but remains determined.

Martha survives, that's why Cane is used, to help improve the Dodge chances because it is all about getting Dodges. Axel is too slow, as a pet, it takes like 15 seconds for Axel to do anything, and a lot of times, that's way too late.

I do think if Martha dies quickly, you have to reset. There's a lot of randomness. If you get good Dodge rolls with Cane, you can probably win pretty much every fight. Every fight is probably winnable without Buffs if you get good Dodge rolls, but the chance of getting good Dodge rolls is not always going to be in your favor. Oh, that one's a way bad one.
