Honoring Betty White and the Other Golden Girls

The role of Blanche, an art museum employee who was self-absorbed and enjoyed the attention of men, was played by McClanahan.

Prior to that, McClanahan had worked with Arthur in Maude and with White in All in the Family.

In contrast to the rest of the cast, most of her career was dedicated to appearances on drama shows and made-for-TV movies.

A character on King of the Hill was also voiced by her, and she remained active on Broadway into her early 70s.

In 2010, at the age of 76, she passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm.
