A travel visa to Iran can now be obtained by US citizens, but it is quite challenging. Since military operations were initiated by America in the Middle East, Iran has not been welcoming of guests from the United States. Crossing the border was completely prohibited for those holding a US passport.
However, after the departure of US troops from the country, the ban was lifted. Nevertheless, obtaining a visa remains extremely difficult, and if granted, one is required to be accompanied by a qualified guide and cannot freely wander within the country.
