Let's go ahead and admit it right now – the actors in Buffy the Vampire Slayer are not the best singers. But this episode takes first place because of the excellent writing. The story is filled with drama, humor and a little horror. The events taking place foresee what's coming. Buffy was recently torn from Heaven and brought back to life and Willow is abusing her powers and influencing Tara. Dawn is still a little thief, while Zander and his wife are not that certain in their future together.
All in all, the timing isn't great for the arrival of a demon who makes the whole town sing their secrets publicly, but there is no other way, the group will have to deal with this irregular challenge.
The episode is the most loved one of all with an almost perfect rating in IMDB – mostly thanks to the fact that it is serious without taking itself to seriously and that it's funny without being silly. Certainly the rating is boosted additionally by the long awaited kiss between Buffy and Spike at the end. All things considered, this episode is considered the standard in making a musical episode.
